Weight Loss as a Hobby?

I've been thinking about this the last few days. I don't really think of losing weight as a hobby, but looking at all of the things that are involved in losing weight has made me come to the conclusion that losing weight is a great hobby to have. Exercising, blogging, cooking, walking, etc. are all great hobbies to have and all are associated with weight loss.

This article talks about how hobbies keep you from becoming bored. I have to admit, since starting my weight loss journey I have been anything but bored. If I have a few minutes on my hands, I go for a walk or sit at the computer and check out blogs or exercise on my elliptical or check out the internet for new resources, books and articles about weight loss.

I think the only thing that has suffered through my gaining weight loss as a hobby are my other hobbies. I know longer sit in front of the television for more than a few minutes at a time and sadly, my piano playing, guitar playing and harp lessons have taken back seat to my new hobby. ((That's ok with me, I hate practicing anyway.))

Hopefully, all my practicing for my new hobby will come in handy as I near a goal weight that I would like to maintain. In my opinion, the losing part is fun and easy, but the maintenance part is the step I will NEED to practice. Hope you're enjoying your hobby as much as I am.

I hadn't thought of it as a hobby, but I do enjoy the research for the blog and meeting so many new people. I guess if it is a hobby, it is the best one I've ever acquired...except maybe knitting!

You know, Tom, those really are hobbies, and they keep us from having too much time on our hands. When I first started WW, I took up crocheting to keep my hands busy. I crocheted at least four sets of hats, scarves and mittens before i was through. Guess what we gave nieces and nephews for Christmas? :) I love keeping up with your blog—thanks for keeping it so faithfully!

It is a great hobby to have...and a great way to have some private time too on those walks and blogging.

Keep up with the music, too. It's good for your kids and you are one talented Dad!

I would probably struggle to fit into my cricket trousers from my playing days - but I lost almost three pounds in 10 days when I got sick while travelling three weeks ago.

Looking for those cricket trousers right now!!! Have you seen 'em anywhere?

James thanks for the comment, I enjoy keeping up with all the GOADIES blogs as well.

I shall keep practicing my piano and maybe I'll dig the harp back out one of these days.

Even now, you're practicing for when you reach your goal. Practice makes perfect...........:)
