"Attack of the Thankgiving Pies VI"

Saturday, we had a big Thanksgiving feast at my mother-in-laws house. We are celebrating early as one of my sister-in-law's is due with her first baby any day and Grandma and Grandpa plan on driving out to New York next weekend and will stay there through Thanksgiving.

The normal drill involves many appetizers, followed by filling full, followed by lots of turkey and stuffing, followed by filling full, followed by six slices of pie grasshopper pie, pumpkin pie, lemon meringue, banana cream, usually a chocolate pie of some kind and mince meat, followed by filling extremely full.

Well, I had prepared myself for the worst and done and extra work-out on the elliptical on Friday night, followed by an hour on Saturday morning. Our feast did not disappoint, but it was a bit different this year. We arrived early for lunch and I feasted on a salad that was specially made just for me. The taco dip was made with reduced fat cream cheese and sour cream so I feasted on that as well. Drank lots of water and went for a walk with my father-in-law and Kozmo, sister-in-law's yellow lab.

After our walk, it was time for the real feast to begin. Lots of turkey, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes and tons of veggies. This seemed different from past Thanksgivings when the lone veggie would be green bean casserole loaded with the works. I stocked up on the veggies and besides having a second helping of turkey, the veggies were the only thing extra added to my plate.

It was after dinner that I had really been dreading. There were six different desserts including the regulars: grasshopper, pumpkin, lemon meringue, banana cream, apple. The chocolate was missing and I had brought a fat-free banana split dessert. I had a sliver of grasshopper and apple and feasted on my fat-free dessert and I'd call it a successful Thanksgiving Feast!

I'm very glad I have about a week and a half to prepare for the next one at my mother's house. Luckily, I know there won't be six desserts there as my dad is diabetic and doesn't do well with lots of temptations. I plan on making my dessert again, but this time it will be sugar free instead of fat free. Not much different only a different cool whip.

Sounds like you did really well...and it was really smart to take along a dessert that was a little more points-friendly. I think a lot of people are re-thinking the sides and lightening things up here and there. The main ingredients for Thanksgiving meals...turkey, yams, cranberries...aren't bad...it's just what we do to them.

Great job! Extra veggies are always a welcome option. And the banana split dessert sounds like a winner.

Good luck with the next feast!

I think you did pretty well considering all the temptations around the house. I made the 3 veggies with you in mind, as well as the low fat taco dip. Glad you enjoyed them. We are very proud of you and your accomplishments so far. Keep up the good work. If you are hungry for chicken, come to the "Grafton" restaurant and we'll be happy to serve you and the kids!! :):)

Mom says it all! Dad was excited to have someone to take a walk with during the day too! He knows he doesn't need to be eating all that food either.
Can't wait to see what they make for Thanksgiving here in NYC with us!

Thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog. It sounds like you had a game plan for the feast and a little help from your family. That's great. When I plan those things they always go better.
