No Excuses

It's been hard to go for a walk lately in Wisconsin. It's been cold, snowy, icy, dark, etc. So instead of getting down and out, I bought a new pair of country walking shoes to help me keep walking during the winter months. Since the snow came in early December, I have walked to church and back, but that's about it. I have continued to walk at work during lunch, but those walks have moved inside for the most part as well. Yesterday was the first time in a while that I got to go for a walk outside. The snow has mostly melted off the sidewalks and I was able to get around the block at work a few times during lunch.

I also bought a new Columbia Hat. I wanted one that went well over my ears, so I can keep the winter wind from howling too much. My daughters went shopping with me last night and they were really troopers as we made four stops and got home about 9:30pm. Considering they usually go to bed by 8:00, it was a late evening for them.

Now I have no excuse not to get out and walk, except for the fact that I fell down the steps inside our home on Christmas Eve and clonked the back of my head. I've been taking Ibuprofen regularly and I think I'm back to normal, but don't tell my wife. I'm milking this for as long as I can!

Sounds like you're ready to face a few more months of winter! Watch those stairs...they can be treacherous.

I'll bet the kids thought it was a real adventure being up late and running around with dad...my girls would have eaten that up!

BE CAREFUL!!! Whoa, I've fallen while delivering my papers and ouch! So far this year I've only slipped about 3x, but haven't taken a full tumble. Our mailman has these metal things that he puts onto his boots that help to gain traction (like those ones that they have for car tires). I've been thinking of getting a pair.

Good for you for working to keep that pedometer moving! Our walks haven't been very regular since before my surgery. But we do have the treadmill, so no excuses! D

I tip my hat to you. South Jersey hasn't had half the weather that Wisconsin has had, and I've been hibernating indoors and bundling up in sweaters and such, complaining about the cold. Never mind that it might hit 50 degrees today...

I hear you!!! We have gotten 19 inches of snow in Denver this December (those are the official numbers....I think there's more at our house). I loved my walks all spring and summer. I started again this fall with a neighbor but I've been a slacker lately.

I HATE the cold...so I can't imagine getting outside to walk. But I love the solitude of it.

Your milking secret is safe with me, but are you sure Claire doesn't ever peek at this blog?? Those stairs can be treacherous, I think Matt learned that the hard way, too. But he might have been toasted!! Congratulations on your accomplishment this year!! It certainly is a wonderful gift to yourself and your family.

I won't tell Claire about your "secret". You deserve to be pampered once in a while with all you do. Keep up the good work. Don't worry...that cookie plate will not be refilled. Wishing you a wonderful, healthy New Year.
