Creatures of Habit

I wake up every weekday and down 32 oz. of water along with a vitamin. I find if I drink my water right away and not ice cold it is easier to drink. Afterwards, I make myself oatmeal and eat it. Then it's time to get the kids up and ready. This past week has been a bit different since I was off and home with the kids all week. One thing remained consistent.

My 2 yr. old, joins me every morning for oatmeal by the computer. He grabs his own bowl, own spoon, goes to the pantry to grab a pack of oatmeal, takes the bowl and oatmeal to the sink and waits by an open microwave for me to make it. When it's done, he swings the refrigerator wide open and grabs the syrup. I drizzle a little on it and away to the picnic table in the back office when go.

Well, today when he woke up I was on the elliptical. Mommy picked him up and did not know his routine. Fortunately, he is smart enough to do all the steps in order and lead his mother through our routine. When I was done exercising, my wife asked why he grabbed the syrup out of the frig and I told her our routine.

My breakfast is the one meal that I keep consistent. I've changed it up a bit since beginning WW, starting with 6 points and know I'm down to 4 points for breakfast. I usually have oatmeal and some fruit, but sometimes I skip the fruit and add peanut butter. The peanut butter seems to keep me filled up till lunch much better.

Can't wait to teach my little guy more habits, such as folding the laundry and washing the dishes. He already clears his plate from the table, so we're getting there.

That's nice that you get to start the day off that way.

Cute! I remember those little kid days, and I miss them sometimes. I used to be up before the kids and I'd be sitting on the couch, reading my bible when they'd come down with their blankies and sit on my knee and snuggle! I don't get those snuggles any more. I guess that's a good thing considering they're teenagers now! LOL Enjoy!

Oh yeh, breakfast is my favourite meal -- always has been. I'm going to post about my 'typical' meals next week -- I've got the breakfast post almost ready. D

I think Alex is a lot like his Daddy....he already likes to vacuum. Keep him on that healthy oatmeal routine. You are doing a great job. Hmmmmm, as I remember Claire liked to fold laundry when she was a little girl...what happened? :) :) Maybe you should get her back into that routine!

Oatmeal, the breakfast of champions! I've alway enjoyed oatmeal, a habit I picked up from my grandfather. I like to add in a teaspoon or two of applesauce and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

Glad to see you getting the little guy started off on the right foot.

It's never too soon to teach kids good eating habits and self-sufficiency.

Tangelos are a cross between tangerines and oranges. They are larger than a tangerine but with the same loose skin.

Speaking of oatmeal, I use instant regular with Xylitol. I mix it up with milk and then microwave it for 1.25 minutes. When its finished, I add some thawed organic raspberries, a little more Xylitol on that and enjoy!

I don't know that I could eat it every day. Kudos to you for being able to do that.

I meant to ask you a question. Do the majority of folks from Wisconsin take it as a compliment or an insult if they are referred to as Cheeseheads? What say you? We used to live in Eau Claire.

I was thinking about something similar this morning. I was wating my morning oatmeal and made some for my daughter who is 10 months. I was thinking how glad I am that she will grow up learning healthy eating habits and will hopefully have a good relationship food, something I wasn't raised with.

Edge~I don't mind being called a cheesehead. Grew up in a town with 3 cheese factories so there's no getting away from it.

Nothing better than fried cheese curds at the State Fair!
