What happened to the Chick Peas?

Tonight, I went grocery shopping. I have the layout of the store ingrained in my mind. Bread and juices in aisle 1, condiments and soups in aisle 2, etc. Well, tonight when I entered my regular grocery store I was met with everything being flipped around. The only untouched sections of the store were the perimeter. Why would that be? What is on the perimeter? The fruits, the vegetables, the meat and dairy section, and the deli section. What happened? Apparently, it happens every few years as the chain adjusts their inventory. I was pleased to find my regular sections were untouched, but finding a loaf of bread was an adventure only because there was a huge aisle full of breads and buns. I stuck with the cheap store brand as my wife and daughter are the only ones that really eat bread. Finding a box of graham crackers also turned out to be an adventure as they used to be by the cookies, but are now by the soups.

I've been told in the past to shop on the perimeter of the store and tonight I was glad that I do. I was also told recently not to use coupons unless it is for something that you usually buy. I used to clip lots of coupons weekly, but lately have scanned through the sections and picked out only a few.

Tonight was a fun scavenger hunt and I was able to get about 3,000 steps just by trying to find the chick peas. I had to ask a few people. Wait till next time when I ask for the garbanzo beans. Wonder if they'll know it's the same thing?

My second day of WW training was fun. I think I'm gonna like the challenge. I've already been asked to be a "Weigher" at my normal meeting and today I got an email about the possibility of working as a receptionist at a Saturday morning meeting. I would be all for it as we could use the extra cash now that we signed the contract for our kitchen, but the boss (my wife), probably would not be too enthusiastic about me working every Saturday morning.

I try to do most of my shopping around the edges but it's not always feasible.

You were shopping for chickpeas and I was making them for dinner! I do love them, especially Indian style (curried)...also have been making hummus recently and have a recipe to make a "meat" patty with them. The recipe calls for vital wheat gluten, which I've never used, but purchased...it is supposed to give the fake meat a "stringiness"...doesn't sound appetizing does it...but the texture I guess is key to making the fake meat seem real.

They did that at our local supermarket a few years ago and I still can't find things. I was happy to give up bread cause I lost the bread aisle in the move and never was able to find it without help ever again. And he is in charge of finding the pizza sauce cause I refuse to even try!

How exciting is it to be on the other side of the desk at WW???

LOL...........I love the idea of wearing your pedometer to the grocery store, and 3000 steps?!?!?!?! Wow, that's a lot of searching.

Congratulations on the Weight Watchers position. I hope you have fun............:)

I don't enjoy it when my hubby has to work on Saturday mornings either, although that is when I WI. Congrats to you on your new job!

And I don't enjoy it when they redo the store either. I even make up my grocery list according to how I'll travel the store! And we've been shopping mostly perimeter for 9 years now when hubby first started to do low carb. Thankfully our store has a directory hanging above every 3rd aisle or so. Makes it easier to find stuff.

you're right, the boss wouldn't be too excited about that. But I bet you can negotiate something that will work. Congrats on signing your kitchen contract! I can't wait to see it!!
