FEAR!!

Piano lessons or All-City Children's Choir!!!

I have given my 8 yr. old an option. Choose one. "You must try something, you are always complaining about not having anything to do, it's not fair that your sister has more girls to play with, blah, blah, blah. Now, pick...piano lessons or Children's Choir."

Little does she know that I'm going to drag her to both. Why does she not want to participate in choir? She goes to a private school with 13 kids in her class and will probably know no one in the choir. She's afraid. Why does she not want to take piano lessons? She loves plunking on the piano, but if she takes the lessons, she'll actually HAVE to play the piano.

Taking the first step is always the hardest. Deciding to lose weight was the easy part. Actually DOING something was the most difficult thing I've done in a long time. Learning what to eat was easy as well, but actually DOING was and still is hard. There are always excuses, but most excuses come from the fear we have inside. Fear in my daughter's case of not knowing anyone, not wanting to learn something new. Fear of failure! Fear of the unknown!

I have no doubt that my daughter will have fun at choir, and I have no doubt that she could be a successful piano player. Heck, if I can play piano, she should have no problem.

You are a wonderful musician, TB!!! One of my greatest joys is listening to my kids express themselves musically. I know the same will be true for you!! Heck, you already have a harp!!

My dd wants to play the drums. I wonder if I have any fear because I have yet to sign her up for lessons. :) Drums. Those loud, yet beautiful, instruments. Did I mention loud?

I had my oldest daughter enroll in a street self defense course because she lacked confidence. She was twelve at the time, she.hated.it. But by the time she turned 13, she had soooo much more confidence. Before that, she used to get picked on, after, not so much. Sometimes we have to push.
Good luck.
