Gaining Weight is SO MUCH Easier

I have a colleague who has been a lifetime member for well over 10 years and she has been having problems with binging. It is as easy as pie to lose 100 pounds, but how do you successfully keep it off for the rest of your life? A pie done her in this month. This person is close to giving up because she has gained 10 pounds in one month. Gaining 10 pounds is much more realistic than losing 10 pounds. You can only have so many calories in deficit, but when you eat many more than you should, the pounds easily come back. It is a life-long battle and one that I know I will continue to struggle with even though I'm not a huge "binger," instead I am a "snacker" and sometimes don't make the best snack choices.

Don't know where the time goes, I've been checking a few blogs everyday, but had no idea it had been almost a week since I checked in. The boys are doing fine here ;)

Great point! The possibility for taking in extra calories is almost endless. Deficit eating is limited to the number of calories it takes to support your present weight. Bad odds, those! I wish your friend well. I know how hard maintaining weight loss is!

"lifelong battle" is the key.
She does not have to lose all of the weight within a month. Go back to pre-binging lifestyle. Exercise a little more, lift a few weights and watch the calories and gradually bring it back down a pound or 2 every week or 2.
Take the binging as a teaching moment :)

That was my downfall i lost what i need to, became a life time member of weight watchers and proceeded to gain it all back + some!!
This time i'm coming with the mental thought that it's going to be hard work to maintain and it's something i really need to stop and figure out! Last time when i lost it i figured i was finished and all set, this time it will be just the beginning!! And yes just like your colleague my problem is binge eating.

and that is SO WHY I gained what I deemed my manuscript MANY when I was writing...

It's hard not to be discouraged when this happens. My hubby went through this with "snacking" this past summer because he was no longer weighing himself regularly and he didn't realize 5-7 lbs had crept on.

Just when this hit, we set off on our first family vacation in over 10 yrs, so he allowed himself to indulge a little- the plan: A LITTLE. He upped his exercise while on vacation (walking on the beach and working out in the hotel helped mucho), and he planned for the crab legs or whatever!

It's important not to become discouraged and give in to a small backslide. I see it on his face when that has happened a couple of times. However, to his credit, he jumps back in with verve determined to lose those pounds, instead ignoring them. I give him extra hugs all during and no judgements. He has a very slow metabolism. And it sure isn't fair that for anyone gaining weight is so much easier than losing it!
